TRASH/RECYCLE COLLECTION HOLIDAY DELAYS

 

The following holidays always cause a one-day trash/recycle collection delay in 2021:

New Year's Day, January 1

Memorial Day, May 31

Labor Day, September 6

Thanksgiving Day, November 25

 

The following holidays cause a one-day trash/recycle delay IF they fall on a weekday:

New Year's Day (January 1), Independence Day (July 4), Christmas Day (December 25).


FREE MATTRESS RECYCLING EVENT

 

The Town is offering a free mattress drop off to Cheshire residents (only) on Saturday,

May 1, 2021 from 9am to 1 pm in the Town Hall parking lot. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, this is a contactless drop off.

 

ACCEPTED: mattresses (crib/twin/full/queen/king); box springs

NOT ACCEPTED: mattresses from futons/sofa beds/water beds; mattresses infested with bed bugs; wet, damaged, excessively soiled mattresses; sleeping bags; mattress pads/toppers

 

FREE DISPOSAL OF HAZARDOUS ITEMS

 

The Regional Water Authority accepts drop off of hazardous waste May through October.

Online pre-registration, proof of residency, and COVID-19 protocol are required.

FREE ELECTRONICS RECYCLING EVENT

 

The Town is offering a free electronics recycling event to Cheshire residents (only) on Saturday, April 17, 2021 from 9 am to 1 pm in the Town Hall parking lot.

NOT ACCEPTED

smoke detectors; car batteries; appliances containing freon (AC units, refrigerators, dehumidifiers)

Note:  Some scrap metal collectors have free drop-off of appliances containing freon. Contact them for their policies.

 Up to seven (7) electronics items can be brought to the Transfer Station (free of charge) Saturdays from 8 AM to 1PM.  The Transfer Station is located at 22 Burton Drive, Cheshire, CT 06410.

DISPOSAL OF BULKY ITEMS

A private transfer station located in Cheshire is available to Town residents who wish to dispose of bulky items that are not accepted in the weekly trash collection.  THERE IS A FEE FOR MOST ITEMS.

DISPOSAL OF DEAD WILDLIFE
